Earliest records (prob. 14^th C) give this as porta argillae and Lemporte or Leimporte, later evolving to Lehmpforte and Глиняные ворота, all meaning clay gate (see Kopli for discussion of possible related implications), and then to Нарвские ворота or Narva gate. XXX Revise
