Tatari (Tatar) 
Tatar, Tartar. Name derived from the Tatar settlement (Татарская Слобода, Est. Tatari asum) built by Peter I to settle Tatar naval officers after the Great Northern War (1700-1721) and first recorded as Tatarskoi-Slobod-Straße (18th C). Historically, (12-18th C), a слобода (sloboda) was a settlement exempt from certain obligations, mainly taxes, the term later evolving into ‘suburb’. See Tobiase R..
