Linnamäe (Linnamägi)
Hillfort. Named for pointing towards the Iru hillfort, a Bronze-age settlement dating back some 4000-5000 years and at times suggested to be Kalevipoeg’s birthplace.
Linnuse (Linnus)
Stronghold. Many Estonian towns began life as a one of these, Tallinn no less. Also a Soviet occupation renaming (1954-1987) of Toom-Rüütli.
Lodjapuu (Lodjapuu)
Aka harilik lodjapuu, õispuu (blossom tree), hullukoeramarjapuu (lit. crazy dog berry tree), etc., guelder rose, water elder, snowball tree, European cranberrybush, cramp bark, etc., Viburnum opulus. Tree/shrub group, see Lõhmuse.
Lodumetsa (Lodumets)
Wet peatland forest, swamp forest. Lodu:lodu is a synonym of Soo, see also Metsa. One of the Mähe flower-name group, see Lumikellukese.
