Ristiku (Ristik)
1) Clover, trefoil (lit. three-leaf), although the etymology from rist, cross, suggests the supposedly luckier four-leafed variety; 2) Perpendicular; 3) Grating; 4) very archaic: name for a cow born on Ascension Day (Ristipäev, lit. ‘cross day’). Once (1910-1939 [1942?]) named Oskari after local alderman Oskar Gregory, not impossibly a credit note for future back-scratching by Albert Koba (see Tarabella). Rohu (Roht)
Grass, grassy, graminaceous, herbal (sometimes associated with medical usage). Part of a fodder and staples street-name group. See Roo.
Rohula (Rohula)
Lit. place of grass or herbal remedies, place where grass, etc., is. Russified as Рохульская (Rohulska). Known as Aia tänav, Садовая (Sadovaya), and variants until 1925.
Roo (Roog)
Given the street-zone: reed, cane, or suchlike material used for thatching. Also designates the rasping final note of a cockcrow (that’s Doo to you) and, for rood:roo, fishbone or bony framework of the nose (yes, they have a word for that).
